The sum disbursed by the state, European Commission and citizens' donations to those affected by the deadly explosion in Hitrino, northwest Bulgaria, has almost reached BGN 32 M in a few days, daily Sega estimates.

As many as BGN 20 M worth of allocations were announced by the EU Commission earlier this week.

It added to the BGN 10 M granted by the authorities in Sofia to tackle the impact of the powerful blast which left seven people dead and 29 injured in the village of Hitrino on Saturday.

Twelve cisterns carrying dangerous materials derailed as a freight train was going through the village and one exploded.

Separately, BGN 1.7 M in donations have been collected so far.

Political parties have pledge to give some BGN 0.17 M.

Six days after the explosion which left dozens of people homeless and prompted an evacuation of the village of 800 as a cleanup operation was started.

The amount of money collected is unprecedented in Bulgaria's recent history, daily Sega argues.

Another BGN 20 M may be disbursed out of the Rural Development Operational Program.

More donations and campaigns are expected in the days to come as various organizations have said they will be launching their own fundraising.
