The Council of Ministers of Bulgaria is holding an extraordinary session on Monday noontime to discuss the response to an explosion which killed seven people and destroyed dozens of buildings in Hitrino, a village in northeastern Bulgaria.

A dozen tanks carrying dangerous materials derailed on Saturday morning as a freight train was crossing the village, one of them exploding in its center.

The cabinet is to assess the damage and decide on the funding it will disburse for recovery.

Money will be granted for new lodging of tens of affected families, in a village of nearly 800 people, outgoing Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has said.

On Sunday, all ten municipalities in the region of Shumen (where Hitrino is located) agreed to donate BGN 5000 each for the village's recovery.

The Bulgarian Red Cross is also raising funds for those affected.

On Saturday, a government resolution allocated BGN 325 to inhabitants whose lives were impacted by the disaster.
