Bulgaria: High Speed 'Main Hypothesis' for Hitrino Train Blast File photo, BGNES

High speed is one of the most likely reasons for the train derailment that left seven people dead and dozens injured on Saturday, Bulgaria's Deputy Chief Prosecutor has said.

While all options are being looked into at the moment, the explosion that razed part of Hitrino village in the northeast to the ground was probably a man-made disaster, Evgeni Dikov has told public broadcaster BNT.

All train drivers that were on the locomotive as the incident unfolded have been interrogated.

However, prosecutors and investigators will pay more attention to the retrieval of data from the train's speed recorders as its content cannot be subjected to "influence and excuses," Dikov has made it clear.
