Bulgaria: Erdogan: Turkey Has Several Alternatives to Europe BGNES

Turkish President Recep Erdogan stated that his country has not given up on its ambition of joining the EU but that there are several other alternatives if the process reaches a dead end.

Last week, the European Parliament voted on a resolution on freezing accession negotiations with Ankara, while Erdogan threatened to end the agreement on the admission of refugees.

On Tuesday, he pointed out that the vote has upset Ankara.

“We have not closed the European book yet. But the picture which we have in front of us does not permit us to be positive on this issue. No one should forget that there are several alternatives open to Turkey and we will continue our way after evaluating one of them.”

Earlier this month, Erdogan discussed again the idea that Turkey might join Russia and China in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.
