Bulgarian Customs Agency Notches Record Revenues
The National Customs Agency notched up a record revenues of over 1 bln leva in August 2021 from excise duties, import VAT and customs duties, the Agency said in a press release on Friday.
Parliament adopted at second reading the increase in the excise tax on cigarettes. It will increase from BGN 70 to BGN 101 per 1,000 cigarettes, reported bTV.
This will change the ratio between the specific and the proportional excise tax on cigarettes. As of January, 1, 2017 the proportional excise tax will be 27% of the purchase price and, a year later, as of January 2018, it will increase by an additional 1%.
The main purpose is for Bulgaria to reach the minimum levels of excise tax in the European Union.
