President Rosen Plevneliev said on Thursday he intends to convene special sitting of the Consultative Council on National Security with his successor Rumen Radev, to seek a way out of the political crisis in the country and to discuss the issues about the transition of power.
The sitting will be held after the consultations with the parliamentary represented parties are finalised. Only then will the president initiate the procedure of awarding mandates to compound a new political cabinet, said Plevneliev after the meeting with GERB.
He explained also that the main purpose is the political crisis to stay political, not to lead to a parliamentary one.
''We are in a political crisis since yesterday [Wednesday]. The political consultations will continue this and the next week. Tomorrow there will be a meeting with the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP). We continue the consultations with the other parliamentary represented parties next week,” Mr Plevneliev said.
The Council is a consultative body that brings together the Prime Minister, the ministers of defense, interior, foreign affairs and finance, the Chief of Defense, and one representative from each group in Parliament.
Participants discuss matters of national security, public order and the "interests of the Bulgarian citizens," the Presidency's website says.
Another main topic during the meeting was the ability to change some of the election rules in the time remaining until the end of his term.
According to the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) it will be useful if the changes now are minimal, and if the next Government hires experts to design a new electoral system.
''It is not necessary to be in a rush, changing the Election Rules only for a month''. they said.
Оn the opposite side is GERB. Outgoing Prime Minister Boyko Borisov's party will insist for immediate changes just to show the Bulgarians that the political parties will comply with the referendum and the will of people.
No political party, however, has presented or begun preparing a draft law that tables such amendments as of the moment.
