Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has reiterated his intention not to participate in power by any means if his presidential candidate, Tsetska Tsacheva, loses the runoff on Sunday.
"Can you imagine me going out tomorrow to say I changed my mind?" Borisov has told reporters after casting a ballot in the Sofia suburb of Bankya.
Borisov had pledged to step down if Tsacheva lost the first round - which she did - but postponed the move, tying it to the runoff results.
"GERB will not stay a single day more in power if we lose today [Sunday]," he has declared. The Prime Minister has also added he would refuse to take part in any other kind of government within this Parliament's mandate in the event of an election loss.
"Whether there will be a political crisis will depend on the people," he has noted.
Under a resignation scenario, Bulgaria's Parliament will not be dissolved even if no coalition agreement is reached among the parties, as the move lies with the President but he is constitutionally barred from making it less than three months before his term ends. An early election cannot take place before the legislature is dissolved.
