Archaeologists have discovered a Roman bath dated back to the 4th century in the Bulgarian city of Plovdiv.

The bathroom is a complex on a several acres with marble floor and a swimming pool. Currently the builders gave the archaeologists the place and a team led by Maya Martinova discovers the remains which are remarkably saved, according to BGNES wire service.

During this time the Romans used the building to spend their whole days discussing current affairs in the city.

The floor and the walls of the bathroom were heated by a system of warm air circulating between masonsry columns and bricks, called hypocaust. On this place there was a big house from the beginning of the last century and the owners had a lot of problems with the public discontent until it became clear that the Ministry of Culture allowed it.

The initial investment intentions were to build a complex with shops and guest houses on the site. There is, however, there is no risk that construction will go on for the moment and put a layer of concrete on the find, which is part of a larger archeological complex, website Topnovini's Plovdiv branch quotes Martinova as saying.

Thursday's bath is the third one to have been discovered in Plovdiv. The other two remain closed as they are located within private property.
