Bulgarian exports to the EU increased by 4.8% between January and August 2016 compared to the same period of last year, national statistics show.
Exports amounted to BGN 20.1782 B in the first eight months of the year, according to preliminary data from the National Statistical Institute (NSI).
Bulgaria's main trade partners were Germany, Italy, Romania, Greece and France, accounting for 64.3% of the exports to EU member states.
The largest growth in exports was recorded in the sections "Beverages and tobacco" (33.1%) and "Chemical and related products" (20.5%), according to the Standard International Trade Classification.
The most notable fall was recorded in the section "Mineral fuel, lubricants and related materials" (26.6%).
Imports from the EU increased by 1.1% and reached BGN 21.75 B over the first eight months compared to the same period of last year.
The largest amounts of goods imported into Bulgaria came from Germany, Italy, Romania, Greece and Hungary.
The sections "Beverages and tobacco" (33.1%) and "Chemical and related products" (20.5%) saw the biggest growth in imports between January and August, while "Mineral fuel, lubricants and related materials" (26.6%) observed the most notable fall.
