A 4-km line of vehicles seeking to cross into Turkey has been caused by an operation of security and law enforcement officers, the Bulgarian National Radio reports.

Police have raided administrative spaces and residential buildings in Black Sea city of Burgas and the town of Yambol.

Twenty-eight customs officers have been detained so far, the prosecution says.

The operation is being conducted by the Interior Ministry and the State Agency for National Security (DANS).

Earlier, sources of daily 24 Chasa suggested at least 40 customs officers had been arrested. Reportedly, they were part of an organized criminal gang. The Specialized Prosecutor's Office's head has also arrived at the site.

Movement through the Lesovo point, in Southeastern Bulgaria, has been suspended on a temporarily basis, as the Interior Ministry said earlier.

It then recommended the use of Kapitan Andreevo and Malko Tarnovo crossings to those willing to reach Turkey.

Unconfirmed reports of the public broadcaster suggest the ongoing operation is related to possible corruption practices.
