Bulgaria: Newly Registered Unemployed Are Increasing Sharply
The National Statistical Institute reported a sharp increase in the newly registered unemployed in the first week of December - over 14,200 people.
Lawmakers in Bulgaria have passed amendments aimed at providing incentives to unemployed people looking for work across the country.
Under the new changes, an unemployed person who finds a job at a location that lies more than 50 km from their place of residence will be able to earn around BGN 200 (around EUR 100) from the state.
The expenditure will be allocated to meet needs such as paying rents, kindergarten fees and Internet connection.
The new legislation will define "unemployed" as someone registered at an employment office, is looking for a job and is ready to begin work within a fortnight after being notified of a possible opening by the agency.
The monthly benefit will only be available for a period of 12 months.
