The United Kingdom is a strategic partner to Bulgaria within NATO and an important country on matters of regional and global nature, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov has told counterpart Borish Johnson.

Meeting the British Foreign Secretary in London, Mitov has expressed hope that ties between the two countries remain untouched by the result of the Brexit referendum, when a narrow majority voted to leave the EU.

The two have discussed a number of issues such as migration, the fight against terrorism, and cooperation within NATO, alongside the future of the EU after Britain leaves.

The key issue for Bulgaria is to make sure that rights of Bulgarian nationals living and working in the UK are guaranteed, Mitov is quoted by the Foreign Ministry as saying.
