Bulgaria: 24-Carat Gold Stamps Displayed at Bulgaria's Bulkolekto 2016

Post stamps made of 24-carat gold were displayed for the first time in Bulgaria on Friday at the International Fair in Plovdiv during the opening of the exhibition Bulkolekto 2016.

The unique collection contains 22 items – the first post stamps printed in the 19th century in England, Bulgaria, the USA, Russia, Monaco, Switzerland, Norway etc.

According to experts, the value of the collection exceeds EUR 1M.

“This is merely an indicative estimate because golden stamps have never been sold at auctions so there is no exact price. Today, paper stamps are extremely valuable because they are very rare and the golden ones - even more so since these were made in series of 100 only,” explained the chief secretary of the Union of Bulgarian Philatelists (UBP).

The collection Golden Post Stamps of the World from the 19th Century belongs to the chairman of UBP Spas Panchev. The collection was taken out of the vault of the Bulgarian National Bank in order to be displayed at Bulkolekto 2016.
