Bulgaria: Bulgarian Citizens in Turkey: We Will Vote In Spite of Discrimination BGNES

The Balkan Refugees Culture and Solidarity Foundation (Bal-Goc) in Turkey has called on Bulgarian citizens in the country to vote for head of state on November 6, while calling the restriction for only up to 35 voting sections to be opened discriminatory.

“Citizens who live outside Bulgaria, in spite of this discrimination and the difficulties faced, will make their contribution via their votes for the election of president and fulfill their duty,” stated the chairman of the organisation Yuksel Okzan.

The organisation reminded that voting in Bulgaria has been made compulsory, while, at the same time, there is a restriction on the number of voting sections to be opened abroad.

“Non-voting has been reduced to a situation where sanctions and penalties are applied. This topic, i.e. to have compulsory voting on the one hand, but to restrict citizens who live outside the countries of the European Union on the other hand by opening a maximum of 35 sections is, in fact, a huge contradiction,” added Okzan
