One of the Reformist Bloc's parties has said it may propose the alliance to call for early general elections in Bulgaria next year if "all other options are exhausted".

It does not elaborate on what "all other options" are. The party insists a meeting of the Reformist Bloc's Executive Council (the decisionmaking body) and the Civic Council (a consultative body not deemed fully legitimate by all RB members) should take place on October 16, Monday.

Such a vote should be held in the spring of next year if no solution is found to "attempts at destabilizing the state and its institutions," the Bulgarian Agrarian People's Union (BZNS) says in a statement published on its website.

Led by Defense Minister Nikolay Nenchev, the BZNS is the fourth-largest party in the Reformist Bloc, a loose alliance of centrist-to-right-wing parties that are the junior partner in Bulgaria's minority coalition government. One of the bloc's parties, Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB) moved into opposition in December, but kept its minister, Petar Moskov, in the cabinet.

Earlier this week, tensions surfaced between the Reformist Bloc and their partner, Boyko Borisov's GERB party, with Borisov issuing an ultimatum and warning the bloc against behaving like an opposition force in Parliament.

The development followed a vote in Parliament that allowed lawmakers to adjourn all plenary sessions for October and early November to avoid the use of the rostrum in the campaign for November 06's presidential elections. The majority-backed decision sparked controversy among some of the parties and effectively blocked legislative activity such as the adoption of laws.

"We refuse to compromise on our views" of honesty, coherence and transparecy in governance, the statement also reads.

"For the BZNS it is obvious that trust between coalition partners has been breached," it goes on, arguing the only reason for the party to be in the government is to "defend Bulgaria's national interests, its Euro-Atlantic affiliation and to regain the state back from the mafia."

"Every destabilization and political crisis drives us towards a new dependence on the aggressive Russian imperial policy," the statement argues.
