Bulgaria: Parliament To Investigate Debt Incurred for Belene Project BGNES

Parliamentary deputies from GERB, the Patriotic Front, the Reformist Bloc (RB) and BDTS-Naroden Sayuz have submitted a proposal for the establishment of a temporary survey commission for the Belene nuclear power plant, announced Antoni Trenchev from RB.

The commission’s goal will be to inspect all data, facts and circumstances which led to the incurring of a debt for Belene for the period 2006 – June 2016. So far, 51 deputies have signed the proposal.

The Reformist Bloc specified that the GERB deputies who signed the proposal are Delyan Dobrev, Alexander Nenkov, Valentin Nikolov and Metodi Andreev.

A week ago, Parliament approved a decision to grant financial assistance for the payment of the debt to the National Electric Company (NEK). Bulgaria owes the Russian producer of the reactors for the plant EUR 628 M (by September 19) and daily interest of EUR 167,000.
