The government will disburse BGN 100 000 (EUR 51 045) to paralympic athletes, Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has said.

Last week gold medalist Ruzhdi Ruzhdi, who both grabbed a title an set a world record in shot put, lodged a complaint with the anti-discrimination commission of Bulgaria, with him and two others demanding and end to the "discriminatory" regulation on paralympics which results in considerably lower remuneration being handed out to disabled athletes.

"Yes, these are not Olympics, but we have to provide incentives for the will and effort of these people. We can afford it and we will do it."

The move, however, does not reduce the funding gap between Olympic and Paralympic games, with athletes who take part in the former getting five times as much as those participants in the latter contest.
