Hungarians are heading to the polls on Sunday to vote on whether their country should accept the EU's migrant relocation plan.

The alternative offered is to bar all resettlements of migrants from Southern Europe unless Parliament has given the green light.

The question posed to Hungarians: "Do you want the EU to be able to mandate the obligatory resettlement of non-Hungarian nationals into Hungary even without the approval of the National Assembly?"

Hungary is to receive 1249 migrants under the plan approved last year with regard to 120 000 of the 160 000 asylum seekers which most EU member states have backed and which the government of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orb?n defies.

Political scientists have suggested that while the vote will be predominantly against the mandatory quotas, it is not lear whether a turnout of over 50% will be achieved. Hungary has some 8.28 million eligible voters.

Orb?n has repeatedly warned a bigger number of migrants carries a risk of terrorism and challenges Europe's Christian identity.

He also believes the quotas are being "imposed" from the "bureaucrats" of the EU Commission.
