The government approved the additional expenses on the budget of the Ministry of Foreign affairs for 2016 for the purpose of paying the first Bulgarian installment to the Facility for Refugees in Turkey, reported the press centre of the Council of Ministers.
The installment to the amount of BGN 3.4 M is calculated on the basis of the share of the Gross National Income (GNI) of the country in the total sum of the GNI in the EU.
The Facility for Refugees in Turkey was created with the purpose of co-ordinating the activities financed from the budgets of the EU and member-states. The total amount of assistance under the mechanism is EUR 6 B.
Parliament ratified, on March 30, 2016, the agreement for the creation of the Facility for Refugees in Turkey and the schedule for the payment of Bulgarian installments for the period 2016-2019.
These funds are intended for financing the urgent need of humanitarian aid for Syrian refugees and host communities in Turkey.
The operational management and distribution of funds on the territory of Turkey is carried out via the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance and through humanitarian aid.
