The decision of Bulgaria's main ruling party GERB to keep silent on the names of its presidential pair does not bring it any benefits as of the past few weeks, a representative of Alpha Research polling agency has said.
Boryana Dimitrova has told the Bulgarian National Television that while the secrecy worked in favour of PM Boyko Borisov's party for a long time until the end of August, "in September this is not the case anymore."
GERB is adamant it will not unveil the name of its candidate before October 02, a few days before the registration of presidential candidates is over. Most of the other big parties have already raised their own nominations. The elections are scheduled for November 06.
While the lack of a candidate pitched by Bulgaria's biggest political party pushed opponents to fight each other in the summer, playing to the advantage of Borisov, in September the delay "is leaving people puzzled," Dimitrova has noted.
"They are wondering whether there is a strong candidate at all hiding in GERB or, to the contrary, GERB are perplexed," she has added.
