The Republic of Bulgaria will open a consular mission in the Taraclia region of the Republic of Moldova.
Bulgarian President Rossen Plevneliev received confirmation of this from the Prime Minister of Moldova Pavel Filip during talks in New York at the 71st Session of the General Assembly of the UN.
The expansion of Bulgarian diplomatic presence in Moldova will contribute to the improvement of consular services for Moldovan citizens of Bulgarian origin. It will stimulate the investment interest of Bulgarian businesses and will make more visible to Moldovan citizens the advantages of the process of European integration, stated President Plevneliev during the talks.
Plevneliev expressed hope that the territorial-administrative reform in Moldova will not lead to the abolishment of the Tarakliya region. This is the region where the Bulgarian minority has been concentrated historically.
The two governments must also make the utmost effort to start the procedure of transforming the Tarakliya State University into a branch of a Bulgarian higher-education institution, pointed out Plevneliev. The President reckons that this is the only way to preserve the only Bulgarian higher-education institution abroad.
