Bulgaria: Police Eases Tension Between Ovcha Kupel Residents and Migrants BGNES

The tension between the residents of the Ovcha Kupel district in Sofia and migrants placed in the detention centre there increased sharply on Wednesday night, and the police had to intervene.

On Wednesday night, the residents took to the streets after noticing that the migrants are coming out with bats. They explained that they are scared for their cars and complained of the arrogant behavior of migrants towards young girls.

The chief of 06 Regional Police station pointed out that a signal was submitted about young men going about and breaking cars but the authorities discovered no such thing. The police, however, remained in the district all night.

The residents of Ovcha Kupel plan a protest against the detention centre on September 16.
