Bulgaria: Perushtitsa Mayor Faces 10 Years in Prison BGNES

Perushtitsa’s Mayor faces between 3 and 10 years in prison, a BGN 20,000 fine and dismissal.

Regional Prosecutor Rumen Popov explained the corruption scheme at a briefing of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office – Plovdiv.

For the period April - June, repair works were to be carried out on the territory of Perushtitsa. Mayor Minchev agreed with Pavlin Stanev to establish a non-existent venture and win the public procurement order against a payment of BGN 40,000. Statev drafted the documents which were supposed to be filed for a public procurement order for BGN 260,000, VAT excluded.
