Italian President Sergio Mattarella is set to arrive in Bulgaria on Tuesday at the invitation of his counterpart Rosen Plevneliev, the latter's press office has said.
The migration crisis, the state of the EU following the Brexit referendum in Britain, security and terrorism will be high on the agenda of their talks.
Possible deepening of the trade and investment cooperation between Bulgaria and Italy will also be discussed.
Mattarella will also meet Parliament Speaker Tsetska Tsacheva while in Sofia. He will not be able to talk to Prime Minister Borisov, who will be in Burgas, by the Black Sea, receiving his Serbian and Hungarian counterparts.
Separately, the Italian head of state will attend the Arraiolos meeting, a forum that brings together heads of parliamentary republics and also semi-presidential systems in the EU of which Bulgaria has been a part since 2013.
The meeting has been scheduled for September 14-15, with different events due to take place in Sofia and Plovdiv.
