Bulgaria: Buyuk's Expulsion Is Worrisome Only In a Human Aspect

The expulsion from Bulgaria of the Turkish businessman Abdullah Buyuk is worrisome in a human aspect but there can be no exceptions in a situation where there are foreigners illegally entering the country, stated Interior Minister Rumyana Bachvarova.

She did not specify, however, whether in the cases of expulsion of foreigners there has been a judicial ruling which does not permit extradition.

In Bachvarova’s opinion, there had been sufficient information according to which the Turkish citizen had to be turned over to Turkish authorities immediately. The Interior ministry acted in the defence of public security and citizens.

Bachvarova added that the way Buyuk was dealt with in no way differs from the way other foreigners who have no right to be in Bulgaria have been dealt with.

The reason for the expulsion of Buyuk is that he was residing illegally in Bulgaria, had no valid passport and had not submitted an address registration.

“We have met the stipulations of both Bulgarian and European legislation,” stated Bachvarova.
