Bulgaria: Police Syndicate TUFEMI Threatens Protests

The largest police syndicate – the Trade Union Federation of the Employees in the Ministry of Interior (TUFEMI) – has made a statement that the labour rights of workers in the system of the Interior Ministry are systematically violated due to unclear budget cuts, which have led to a direct threat to the lives and health of policemen and firefighters in Bulgaria. Syndicate leaders have threatened that protests will be organised.

TUFEMI announced that the overtime of tens of policemen has not been paid for April-May, 2015, at a time when there was pressure at our borders.

An additional problem is the drafting of working hours and shift schedules for firefighters in such a way that there are not enough employees in the months with the heaviest workload, thus creating artificial risks in order to save money.
