Kilometers-long queues have been formed at the borders of Bulgaria with Turkey and Greece as Bulgarians are coming back from their holidays, border police officials say.

There was a 5-km line of trucks at the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing in the morning, and another one, with a length of 3 km, was reported at a Kulata checkpoint leading into Bulgaria from Greece.

Hours before big queues were to be formed at the border checkpoints - typically in the afternoon of the last non-business day - it took around 30 minutes to cross Kulata, according to daily 24 Chasa.

At other border crossings, the situation was reported to be normal as of noontime.

Hemus Motorway's section in the area of Varna, the biggest Black Sea city, was already marked by heavy traffic as of 15:50 local time (EEST), according to Focus News Agency.

Some 200 000 cars are expected to have entered the capital Sofia by Tuesday evening.

Many Bulgarians chose to extend their vacation by merging it with a long weekend, namely the public holidays of Unification (September 06) and the day before.
