Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov said on Saturday that he will resign immediately if his party GERB loses the forthcoming presidential elections scheduled to take place on November 6.

Speaking to the participants in the ninth regular summer university of GERB’s youth organisation, Borisov was firm that in the event of an electoral defeat, he will resign on the night of the elections.

Borisov assured that GERB’s candidates for president and vice-president have began and developed a successful career within the party, Darik radio quotes him as saying.

GERB has consistently refrained to unveil the name and gender of its presidential candidate.

Earlier this week, the party announced that its presidential candidate will be unveiled on October 2, just a week before the start of the election campaign.

The party has repeatedly stated that is candidate is a recognizable figure and is well-known both in Bulgaria and Europe.

On Thursday, Borisov dismissed speculations that he will run in the presidential elections this autumn, saying that he will do so in five years.
