''The EU and Turkey need to make tremendous efforts but need to prolong the signed agreement by October, and then need to create steps that would allow it continue for a longer period. Bad or good, the agreement works and both Turkey and the EU need to realize the severity of the problems,'' stated the Bulgarian Prime Minister soon after his meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel earlier on today.
He added that a visa-free regime with Turkey seems unlikely, but there could be some alleviated procedures for business owners and politicians.
''All we want is for the EU to comply with the committments it has already made. After all, European solidarity and cohesive funds are not the only things that make up the union,'' he stated.
Borisov also noted that Bulgaria has taken a firm stance and will not be taking in any refugees returned from Hungary, Germany, Austria, having in mind the active readmission agreement with Turkey.
