Bulgaria: EC VP Kristalina Georgieva Denies Media Speculation of Being's GERB's Pick for President of Bulgaria

European Commission Vice-President Kristalina Georgieva has dismissed media speculation that she is the possible candidate of governing GERB party for President of Bulgaria.

“I take no part in this political cycle, this isn’t on the agenda and won’t be,” Georgieva, EU Commissioner for Budget and Human Resources, told public TV broadcaster BNT on Thursday.

Centre-right GERB, the dominant partner in the minority coalition government led by Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, hasn’t announced its candidate for November 6 presidential elections yet, leaving wide space open for media speculation.

In a comment about the outcome of the UK referendum on EU membership Georgieva said that the decision to leave the bloc is an unprecedented challenge which the bloc hasn’t been prepared to tackle.

The younger people in the UK and their greater adaptability were not enough to overcome the conservatism and fears of the older generations in the country, Georgieva added.
