Bulgaria: Former Road Infrastructure Agency Chief found innocent in scandalous court case BGNES

Bulgaria's Supreme Court of Cessation has finally come up with a sentence on the scandalous "Batko and Bratko" case against the former Road Infrastructure Agency chief Veselin Georgiev. He is now officially found innocent on all claims.

This court case was in fact one of the main reasons why the European Commission blocked funding of 160 mln euro on road infrastructure development projects.

The judicial proceeding took a total of 7 years. The case concerned 8 fictitious and unfavorable tender deals conducted with companies, connected to the brothers Boyko and Emil Georgievi. The deals had a total value of 38 mln. leva.

The main motif for finding Georgiev innocent was stated to be the indirect participation of the agency chief with the assignment of the tender winners.
