Twenty-one people lost their lives in Macedonia as torrential rains hit the capital Skopje and its surroundings, state news agency MIA says.

Six others were declared missing as Skopje was flooded.

At least 22 others were hospitalized due to injuries.

The rain hit the capital on Saturday afternon, with the sewage system failing to deal with the unexpected amount of water.

Some of the deaths were in neaby towns of Arachinovo, Singelic and Staykovtsi.
