Belgium Pushes for Full Schengen Integration of Bulgaria and Romania

Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has called on his counterparts from five countries to support the Bulgarian candidate for the post of United Nations Secretary-General, Irina Bokova.
Borisov sent letters to the prime ministers of the United Kingdom - Theresa May, Spain - Mariano Rajoy, Japan - Shinzo Abe, Malaysia - Najib Razak and New Zealand - John Key, the Bulgarian government press office announced on Friday.
"I call for the support of your countries in their capacity of members of the Security Council of the United Nations. This would not only demonstrate the friendship between our countries but it could also could contribute to the further strengthening and deepening of our relations," Borisov said in the letters, according to the statement.
"I am convinced that 70 years after the founding of the Organization the time has come to entrust this post to a representative of the Eastern European regional group," Borisov added.
He also said that UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova is one of the strongest candidates within the UN system and she will contribute to the drafting of concrete actions aimed at effectively addressing the pressing challenges and threats, and promoting peace and security.
Irina Bokova came in third in last week’s first-round secret vote at the UN Security Council to select the next UN Secretary-General.
The Security Council is set to hold a second straw vote on the candidates on 5 August.
