Bulgaria: Turkey Coup Arrests Reach 6000 - Official EPA/BGNES

Turkish Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag has said as many as 6000 have been detained since an attempted coup on Friday evening.

Reuters quotes him as telling NTV broadcaster that "the judicial process on this will continue."

On Saturday it was announced that more than 2800 soldiers had been arrested for allegedly being involved in the coup attempt, while over 2700 judges had been summarily dismissed.

Some Turkish sources suggest the number of detained magistrates was at least 500 as of Sunday morning.

Latest data suggests the death toll has reached 265, of which more than 100 were civilians and the rest are said to be soldiers backing the failed coup.
