Bulgaria: Bulgaria Following Turkey Coup Attempt with Anxiety

Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has said his country is following closely the developments in Turkey.

He has called for the restoration of constitutional order and the observation of fundamental rights and freedoms.

"Whatever problems there are in a society, their solutions have to be found in a peaceful and democratic way, and not through violence," he has made clear.

There are conflicting reports about the situation in Turkey early on Saturday morning, with a military group claiming it is in charge and Turkish PM Binali Yildirim saying the situation is under control.

Border patrols have meanwhole been stepped up on the Bulgarian side of the border with Turkey.
