There is some risk of a terror attack in Bulgaria following the events in Istanbul and it applies to all EU member states, the head of Parliament's internal affairs committee has said.

Tsvetan Tsvetanov, who is also deputy head of the country's main ruling party GERB, has added there is no information about a particular threat, based on information from security services.

He has made clear that new anti-terror legislation will be eventually discussed and reviewed at a security meeting with Bulgaria's Prime Minister.

Tsvetanov has expressed hope the legislation will be adopted by the time MPs leave Parliament for their summer recess in August.

GERB says the new bill sets rules on alert levels, coordinates local and regional anti-terror plans across the country, and adds specific conditions under which armed forces officers could be handed police competences in cases of emergency.

It also regulates rights and obligations of institutions, natural and legal persons in cases where civil rights are violated during counter-terrorism operations.

Tuesday's attack at Istanbul's Atat?rk Airport has left 45 dead and more than 200 injured.
