The move by the UK to leave the European Union will speed up the union's recovery, Bulgarian Defense Minister Nikolay Nenchev has said.

He has also ruled out that the developments in Britain could impact NATO in any way, citing a recent meeting with his UK counterpart Michael Fallon where a possible scenario was discussed.

Nenchev has told the Bulgarian national Radio that the events would help member states realize "it is very easy to talk in a populist way, but very difficult to amend mistakes of the populists".

"The initiators of the referendum themselves are too hesitated and confused. This gives me the ground to think that what happened will wake up common sense."
