Bulgaria: Sofia Airport Reports 16 %  Increase in Passenger Numbers in May

The airport of the Bulgarian capital reported 16 % increase in the number of passengers in May compared to the same month last year.

A total of 410 198 passengers went through Sofia airport, which represented an increase of nearly 58 000 people compared to May 2015.

The number of passengers on regular international flights increased by 19 %, while those traveling on domestic ones decreased by 11 %.

Travelers on international flights accounted for 95 % of all passengers going through the airport.

There was 34 % increase in the number of passengers traveling through Terminal 1, while those passing through Terminal 2 retained their level from May last year.

In May, the airport serviced 4448 airplanes, which represented an increase of 16 % compared to the same month in 2015.

As is the case with passengers, the greatest increase was recorded in the number of international flights.

In May, the airport serviced 1.467 tonnes of cargo and postal shipments, which represented a decrease of 6 % compared to the same month last year.
