The largest opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) demanded the resignation of Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Meglena Kuneva.
BSP is demanding the resignation of Kuneva due to the failure of the education reform and the scandal with the promised 10 % increase in teachers' salaries from next year.
This was announced by the recently elected leader of BSP Korneliya Ninova in Stara Zagora on Tuesday.
According to Ninova, Kuneva should resign as Bulgarian teachers have been insulted by being promised 10 % increase in their salaries.
At the national teachers' council on Sunday, Kuneva said that the salaries of teachers will be increased by 10 % starting from 1 January 2017.
On Monday, Prime Minister Boyko Borisov stated that this increase had not been discussed with him, but he was not opposed to it as long as it had been agreed between Kuneva and Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov.
Later on Monday, the finance ministry came out with information that the increase has not been foreseen in its plans.
Ninova identified education as one of the priority policies of BSP, saying it was high time for the prime minister to engage with the matter and determine a goal and direction for education.
In her words, without quality education, there are no revenues to the economy, there are less opportunities for social policies and young people are forced to leave the country.
According to the leader of BSP, the current model of coalition government has expired and there is need for early parliamentary elections.
