Bulgarian border police have announced that a freight train was stopped and returned to Greece on Saturday amid suspicions it was transporting migrants.

Law enforcement officers heard voices coming out of the carriages, but were unable to inspect the content of the latter as they were sealed, public broadcaster BNR quotes officials as saying.

The train was en route to Bulgaria and was stopped for a check at the Kulata border checkpoint around 16:00 local time (EEST).
