An estimated 210,643 migrants and refugees have arrived in Europe by sea in 2016 through 12 June, according to the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).

This compares with an estimated 146,083 arrivals across the Mediterranean and along the Western African routes between 1 January and 30 June last year.

Fatalities at sea this year are 2,859 compared with 1,838 through the first six months of 2015.

Over 3,180 migrants have been rescued at sea and brought to land between June 10 and June 13, according to an IOM official in Rome.
