Bulgaria has witnessed a bustling winter tourism season, with a total of 1.8 million tourists gracing its picturesque landscapes from December 1 to March 25
The two suspects who had been detained in connection with the robbery of the central post office in Haskovo on Wednesday morning have been released.
They were detained for 24 hours on Thursday, but their arrest was not extended by the prosecutor’s office due to lack of evidence.
A total of BGN 1.8 M, which were meant to be paid out as pensions, are believed to have been stolen from the coffers of the post office.
The robbers cut a fence at the back of the post office and broke into the building through the staff entry. They tied the security guard on duty and poured him with bleach.
They poured bleach over the floor and spread hairs which they had most likely taken from hairdressers to conceal any traces they might had left.
The robbers also cut out the electricity supply and dismantled the security cameras.
Tens of people have been interrogated over the robbery and they are to undergo tests with polygraph as there are suspicious that the robbers were assisted by an insider.
The two released suspects have record of perpetrating similar robberies in Haskovo and Kardzhali.
