Seven people have been detained in connection with the shooting near a popular disco in Bulgaria's largest Black Sea resort of Sunny Beach on Wednesday evening.
The shooting targeted local drug lord Dimitar Zhelyazkov, known by his nickname Ochite (The Eyes), and people from his entourage.
Zhelyazkov and one of his bodyguards were heavily wounded, while another was killed. Luckily, none of the ordinary visitors to the club was injured.
Two of the suspects were detained immediately after the shooting and five other were arrested later.
According to preliminary information, around thirty people were involved in the incident. The police is continuing its work on the territory of five regions.
It is believed that the person responsible for the death of Zhelyazkov's bodyguard is among those detained.
According to police, the shooting occurred after the two groups quarreled over a parking lot. The unofficial version is that the shooting was due to a conflict between rival drug rings and racketeering practices.
A group of around ten people, who were already at the club, opened fire at Zhelyazkov and his entourage numbering between thirty and forty people when they arrived to the disco.
Zhelyazkov and his entourage were reportedly armed with axes and knives and were carrying body armour.
Zhelyazkov, who was admitted to hospital in Burgas, remains in critical condition after five bullets hit him in the chest, stomach, thighs and bladder. Four of the bullets have been removed from his body. None of the wounds is fatal, but doctors are experiencing difficulties stopping the blood loss.
Throughout the years, Zhelyazkov has been charged with racketeering, heading organised crime group, distribution of drugs on the Black Sea coast.
He spent five years in prison after he had admitted that he headed an organised crime group.
In November 2001, an assault targeting Zhelyazkov claimed the lives of his wife, brother and bodyguard.
