Four Israelis were killed and several other injured in a shooting which took place in Tel Aviv on Wednesday night.

The two Palestinian attackers have been detained, with one of them being interrogated, while the other has been admitted to hospital after being injured.

The shooting occurred at Sarona market, an area with many cafes and restaurants, located near the defence ministry and main army headquarters.

The two attackers were relatives from the town of Yata in the South Hebron Hills, which is known as stronghold of Hamas.

The shooters, who were reportedly disguised as religious Jews wearing kippot, opened fire randomly at civilians.

As a result, ten injured people were admitted to hospital, three of whom later died of their wounds.

This is one of the deadliest attacks since the eruption of Palestinian violence in October last year and the first shooting of such scale in Tel Aviv since New Year's Day when an Israeli Arab killed three people.

Israeli authorities have labelled the attack a “terrorist shooting” and have cancelled the easing of security measures for Gaza Strip residents during Ramadan.

As a result, 204 entrance permits for relatives of the attackers have been frozen, while 83 000 permits for Palestinians in the West Bank to visit family members in Gaza have been revoked.
