Bulgaria: GERB's Presidential Candidate Doesn't Need Long Campaign - Parliament Speaker File photo, BGNES

The candidates for President and Vice President chosen by Bulgaria's senior coalition partner GERB are popular enough and do not need a long campaign, Parliament Speaker Tsetska Tsacheva has said.

Tsacheva has told private bTV broadcaster the two have such qualities that they would not need to be additionally made familiar to the public so that it could make the right choice.

Their names would therefore be announced at the end of the summer "at the earliest," she has added.

Her comments follow an announcement by the head of GERB's parliamentary faction Tsvetan Tsvetanov that the party has already picked a nominee to run for President.

Speculation has been on the rise as to whether Prime Minister Boyko Borisov intends to run.

In May, incumbent Plevneliev, who in 2011 was nominated by GERB, said he would not seek a second term in the autumn.
