The Central Electoral Committee (DIK) of Macedonia is expected to sit early next week as VMRO-DPMNE of former Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski has remained the sole party running in the vote.

A snap poll has been scheduled for June 05 which SDSM, the biggest opposition party, is boycotting but in which two smaller organizations were expected to run.

However, one of the two parties withdrew the documents it had submitted to DIK, while the other failed to remove irregularities from their ticket as the committee had requested.

"In a multi-party system it is against the rules to organize elections in which only one party is running," news website MKD notes.

On the DIK's website [MK], no tickets other than those of VMRO-DPMNE can be seen.

Socialist SDSM has already demanded that the vote should be postponed and has stated it intention to boycott the vote ever since tensions were raised in society after President Gjorge Ivanov announced earlier this spring a blanket amnesty for politicians and other people involved in a wiretapping affair.
