Bulgaria: 320 000 Bulgarians to Work in Black Sea Resorts This Summer

Around 320 000 Bulgarians will work in the country's Black Sea resorts and tourist sites during the forthcoming summer season.

The tourist sector is not expecting problems with finding employees in the months of July and August when is the peak of the summer season. Similarly, there is no expectation for lack of lifeguards.

At present, resorts are eagerly hiring employees, but there is discrepancy between demand and supply.

Hotels have not yet completed the process of recruiting all employees they will need during the season.

At the same time, people wishing to work in resorts during the summer have not stated their job preference and period of availability.

The large international resorts are relying almost exclusively on recruiting people from the interior of the country, while the opposite trend is visible in smaller settlements where are almost all employees are local people.

The large complexes as well as three, four and five-star hotels provide year-round employment to their most precious cadres.

The average remuneration in the sector ranges between BGN 650 and BGN 12 000 depending on the position.

Apart from the salary, employees are also paid for their lodging, food, holiday, transport expenditures, free mobile phone, car, credit card.

Most employees are also entitled to compensations in the event of quitting their job, which in some cases can be up to three salaries.

A trade union representative notes the large discrepancy in the remuneration announced by the sector and the salary reported by the National Statistical Institute (NSI).

According to representatives of the sector the minimum salary is BGN 650, while NSI reports an average remuneration of BGN 520.

In most cases, the additional bonuses are paid to the managers, while the rest of the personnel is entitled to BGN 60 vouchers and free transport.

According to analysts, tourism is the sector which motivates Bulgarians abroad to come back to their home country and realise themselves as managers or entrepreneurs.
