An estimated 188,075 migrants and refugees entered Europe by sea between January 1 and May 11, compared with 91,860 in the first five months of last year, the International Organsiation for Migration (IOM) said on Friday.

Latest fatalities stood at 1,357, a decrease of 25% compared with 1,792 migrant deaths in the Mediterranean in 2015 through 11 May, IOM said in a statement.

Arrivals in Greece in 2016 through May 11 totaled an estimated 155,765, and arrivals in Italy were 31,219.
