Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev has reportedly refused to accept the nomination of his party to become Labour and Social Policy Minister after the previous holder of the position Ivaylo Kalfin resigned on Tuesday.

This was stated on Friday by Tsvetan Tsvetanov, the chairperson of the parliamentary group of the largest ruling party GERB, daily Dnevnik informs.

Tsvetanov added that discussions on the possible nominations are continuing. At present, candidates from parties different from GERB have not been considered.

Among the possible candidates is Totyu Mladenov, who served as labour minister during the first term of Boyko Borisov as prime minister.

The deputy chairperson of the parliamentary labour and social policy committee, Svetlana Angelova, and Deputy Labour and Social Policy Minister Zornitsa Rusinova are other possible candidates

The nomination of Donchev, who was proposed by GERB on Thursday, has been discussed at consultations between the largest ruling party, its junior coalition partner, the Reformist Bloc (RB) and the party supporting the ruling coalition – the Patriotic Front (PF).

According to private NOVA TV, Donchev will most likely not succeed Kalfin due to his numerous commitments as deputy prime minister responsible for EU funds and economic policies.

Prime Minister Borisov is expected to present the nomination for new labour minister to MPs later on Friday, with the voting to take place next week.

On Thursday, GERB nominated Donchev and he was expected to say on Friday whether he will accept the nomination.

Kalfin, who is member of the left-wing Alternative for Bulgarian Revival (ABV), resigned in line with the decision of his party to withdraw its support for the government due to disagreement with the policies pursued by the cabinet.
