An earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale has been registered near the town of Nova Zagora in Eastern Bulgaria, seismological authorities say.

The quake occurred at 09.46 local time, at a depth of 3.7 km beneath the surface.

Its epicenter was located south of Polsko Padarevo, a village 7 km to the southeast of Nova Zagora.

According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center, its magnitude was 4.4.
